Indian Kitchens: Treasured family recipes from across the land by Roopa Gulati
on Monday 26th May, 9.00am - 10.00am BST
Send me a message if you’d like to join in the discussion. The format is simple and basically like any other book club gathering where the members share thoughts, ideas and opinions - just with food and cookbooks at its heart (and therefore even better).
Ahead of the event I’ll be sending out some background notes about the book and its author. But in short: this is a cracker of a cookbook. Roopa is one of those people whose sheer presence - whether in person, on the page, in the kitchen or on the plate - is nourishing. I know I am going to cook from this loads and I bet plenty of people will feel the same. Part of what I love about Indian Kitchens is how it brings together expected basics such as garam masala, rices, puris and parathas but rising up from those are so many delights I’ve neither cooked nor eaten before quite like Roopa does them.
Try the recipes
Roopa has generously shared with us three recipes from Indian Kitchens so you can get an idea of its deliciousness:
Semolina pancakes with red pepper, tomato and red onion
Roast lamb shoulder with ginger and fresh turmeric
Phirni with honey, orange and saffron syrup
About the discussion group
We’ll meet over zoom. Everyone who attends will have the opportunity talk about what you have made from Indian Kitchens and what you think about the book. We want to hear about what you cooked, what you thought of what you cooked, and what you think about the book more generally.
Our discussion will be recorded but not made available for the wider community to watch back. I want everyone to feel free to say what you think, without thinking those remarks will live forever on the web. Numbers are limited to small groups.
It is not essential to have cooked something from the book, but you / we really will get more out of this if you have.
Places are limited and only open to paid subscribers. Free to attend.

Book giveaway
There’s one copy of Indian Kitchens to give away to a paid subscriber / upgrader. If you would like the chance for a free copy of May’s book pick then send me a message by noon BST on Sunday 11th May. I’ll pick a name out of a hat after then and will post the book out for free anywhere in the UK.
