I found the ‘cooking of south west France ‘ at the beginning looked rather intimidating compared to the usual ‘here is my beautiful life in south west France with some recipes ‘ books. But the recipes are very good indeed , I cooked her basque chicken last night and what was so good was that there was nothing in it that could not be bought in our local farm shop , and for someone who lives in the country with me that is a big deal. I found it interesting to compare with Delia’s chicken basque, many more ingredients, needs a supermarket visit, and it was delicious and tasted old fashioned but in such a good way

Hi Miranda - thanks for sharing your thoughts. Yes, absolutely right, this isn't a "look how beautiful my life is in southwest france' book! Which I think is perhaps partly why I like it so much! Just good, proper recipes; well-written; using lovely ingredients. I think there's an honesty to it that I really like. Ax
